When you want to hold for Long term like more than 5 years, Always prefer fundamentally good stocks, And understand about your company and stocks you are investing. Basically there will be two types of stocks, Growth Stocks /Value Stocks, Growth stocks are volatile , in some period they will give multi fold returns in some periods they will fall rapidly , so keep in mind when investing these type of stocks, And about value stocks they are less volatile, they will give returns consistently and you may not get returns as mush as growth stocks, but your returns will be greater than FD returns.
So balance your portfolio , give equal allocation to both type of stocks. Below providing some stocks for further study.
